Shooting film at Odder Højskole

30. April 09/ A visit to the school and interview with actress Amalie.

In week 43 the theatre line-students of Performers House went to the town of Odder to help the film- and tv-production line at Odder Hojskole. The theatre students were acting in front of the camera while the film- and tv-production students did all the rest of the production work. On Thursday Gifty and Kaare from the PR-choice subject joined with the rest to see what was going on in Odder. This is Gifty’s story:

On our trip to Odder Hojskole, we had a nice discussion about how the trees where changing into beautiful colours and we arrived at the school at 12:15 while they where having their lunch, so we joined them. After lunch Kaare took some pictures with Performers House´s students (the staff).

Outside the buildings I was sitting down to watch how they where shooting a scene for the film. It was quite interesting and fascinating. It seems as if it’s easy, but I caught a girl from the theatre line and her name is Amalie Alstrup Halsey. So I want her to answer a few questions about the film shooting and about odder højskole:

Why did you choose theatre as your choice subject?

Questioning Amalie about the film-shooting.

- For me it is a matter of personal development because I think that in theatre you can dig into your personality and find sides and emotions you never found before.

How did you feel on this set?

- It’s very exciting to act in front of the camera because there is this difference between performing theatre on stage and in front of a camera. Moving and voice is more like how you would react naturally.

What do you expect at the end of this shooting?

- I haven’t had high expectations with the shootings. Because it’s so new for all of us and this week has been a learning process for the actors as well as the film crew.

What are your goals?

- My main goal with the acting in these films is to get experience with working in front of the camera – and learning from my mistakes – so I know what I can do better the next time I do film acting.

How is your relationship with your colleagues?

- It was a bit difficult for me to cooperate with the film crew to begin with – but in the end the co-operation between the film crew and actors got better – because the director seemed more aware about what she wanted and we got better at listening.

What is your role in the films?

- In the first movie, “On that fateful day”, I play an office girl, Melanie – who becomes exchanged with another girl, Gabriella. This means that Melanie gets kidnapped by mistake. I also have a small role in another film called “The Stroller Factory”, where I play a factory worker.

The kidnapping has taken place - Amalie and Laur Ihermann acting on the set.

What is the difference between Performers House and Odder Hojskole?

- Odder Hojskole gives the impression of a very traditional danish hojskole because of the old buildings with small rooms and corridors – which makes the place nice and cosy. It’s almost like a maze and it’s quite easy to get lost if you don’t know the place well.

- Performers House is not a traditional hojskole. The buildings and the architecture is very modern and the subjects we have on the school is taught in order to teach us how to perform. We basically don’t speak danish at PH – mostly english. At Odder Hojskole they have a lot of typical hojskole subjects and the main language they speak is danish – that afterwards gets translated into english.

Film and TV-production teacher Jeppe Hovman praises the students for their hard work.
