13 young international artists are participating in the fall semester at Performers House to create “EUtropia”, a multidisciplinary cross border performance involving 250 young European artists.
--
The Project idea
The EUtropia project is a cultural and artistic project involving 9 European countries in the making of an international multidisciplinary performance.
This performance will travel through different European countries at 8 workshops and residencies and will be "re-invented" and re-created at each stop, involving new artists and new artistic disciplines. EUtropia is not a tour of a show, but rather a tour of a concept, that is constantly evolving on it's travel.
--
The concept for EUtropia will be created by 13 young international artists in Denmark in 2011, and will be developed and reworked by approximately 250 young European artists in 2012, all adding their ideas and skills to the concept and contributing in the creation of a new shared expressive language that is based on the cultural heritage and modern influences of each, while bridging traditional and contemporary aesthetics.
--
The ideas and different variations in the concept will be documented throughout the whole project, and the final result of the EUtropia project will be presented in a big performance show in Utrecht in 2013, as part of the celebration of the 300 year anniversary of the Treaty of Utrecth.
Eutropia is a ROOTS & ROUTES activity funded by the EU CULTURE programme and the 9 international partners.
--
ROOTS & ROUTES initiatives empower creative youths by helping and coaching them in order to improve their singing, dancing and media skills using Arts and media as tools for their artistic career and integration in the social and cultural life.
--
The starting point
The 13 young international artists have joined the fall semester at Performers House to form the initial EUtropia nucleus (read: back bone group of the project). The task of the EUtropia nucleus is to create the concept of the EUtropia project during their stay at Performance House. The concept will take form as a performance which will be the framework and foundation of the other EUtropia workshops and residencies as well as the final performance in Utrecht.
--
The Performance in it’s initial form will be shown in December 2011 in Denmark. During the process of creating the concept the nucleus will develop and select artistic elements, ideas and themes, and create an archive of ideas, scripts, lyrics, music etc. to document the working process, and to inspire new EUtropians to participating in the workshops and residencies.
-- The Nucleus The artists in the nucleus has been specifically chosen to form a strong group with great diversity in cultural and social backgrounds, languages as well as artistic expression forms. The nucleus represents 5 European countries (Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Germany and Greece) and brings together talent and experience within performing arts such as dance & choreography, new circus, drama & theater, classical, rhythmic and electronic music & composing, visual arts, media, and much more.
-- 10 -15 more international artist will join the nucleus in 2011, working from their home countries by inspiring, guiding and sharing ideas with the nucleus in Denmark.
--
The nucleus is responsible for the concept and for carrying the torch through Europe. 5 - 8 artists from the nucleus will be present at every workshops and residencies taking the roles of torchbearers of the concept, assistant facilitators as well as stage performers. They will ensure a strong red line in the concept and the documentation of all new ideas and additions to the performance.
--
Finally the EUtropia nucleus will be reunited at the final performance in 2013.
