A voice expressionist and father figure

During the workshop week (41), the students at Performers House were so delighted to have a visitor from Copenhagen, a music educationalist educated at the Royal Music Conservatory of Copenhagen who has been working as a voice teacher for the past 20 years at the national theater school in Odense and Copenhagen. Henning Silberg came to Silkeborg and Performers House to lead the workshop; ”Voice expression, text and singing”.

--

The students who participated in the workshop were quite intimidated by Henning Silbergs impressive record before he came to Silkeborg, but they were in for a surprise, Lina Beekhuijsen tells:

--

”Immediately when he walked into the room you felt safe and comfortable because of his aura and simply the way he acted calmly to you”.

--

The students were able to leave all prejudice behind and form a group which included all and had space for everyone. During the week, their work would be based upon the premises of their voices and they would train their capability of expression through texts as well as songs. The students went through remarkable developments, not just professionally but also personally:

--

”Since working with Henning for a couple of days we were all completely exhausted, but in a good way. He made us think about how we express ourselves in a personal way, and he really broadened our view on our own thoughts about singing and the way we express ourselves and channel out our energy and with that our voices”, says Lina.

--

Not only people from the workshop noticed the change affecting all the students from Henning Silberg's class. A student, who had been home for a couple of days, came back and told everyone from the class that she could really feel, how something had happened to them. Also the head of the Theatre Line, Karin Sjöholm, was very impressed with Hennings' work with the students.

--

When Friday came, almost the entire the class made a “show-off-performance” for the rest of the school. They sang and performed the texts and songs they had been working on - not as a performance but simply as a demonstration for all of the school of what they had been doing. After the performance the workshop was over.

--

The students had a hard time saying goodbye to Henning Silberg, since he had become like a “spare-father” to them and because they felt like he knew them in a way that nobody else did. Anyhow, it had come to an end and he had to go back to the theater school in Copenhagen, but he told them that they could always come and visit him.
