A big Bunch of weird ad crazy ideas

29. April 10/ Interview with Liv Pelsen

Can you describe your line in five words?
- Abstract. A physical and mental challenge. Exciting! Very self-developing.

How would you describe a typical Basic-Week?
- We work with Magnus, who's teaching physical theater, two times a week, and the same with Karin who's doing voice-training. We do focus-exercises stuff like that.

Is it true you run three times a week? Is physical theater that tough?
- Well we used to, sometimes we do. And yes, it is very tough physically, but also mentally – learning to think like a character – it's hard. It really makes you question yourself, but you really learn a lot about yourself that way.

For how long time did you work on the main Subject project, and how was it for you?
- Uuuuhh, many hours – it was especially hard the last days up to performing. I had been away and came back in the last minute and had to create a character in no time.

How did you create your piece, was it all your own material?
- All is our own material, well except for some of the songs, but most of the texts we made ourselves  - it's our own handwork.
- The creation was a big mix; own ideas, ideas of the others and our teachers ad improvisation. Our teachers didn't make a theme for us, it was all a big bunch of weird and crazy ideas put together. Our basis was an improvisation we'd done using an old, scattered piano and costumes – some of the characters we created there was used in the performance, and the piano as well of course.

And what are you working with now?
- For the festival and the Final project we're working with masks and creating characters: Comedia D'el Arte. We're all making our own masks, I'm making a bird-like one; they all have to be animal-masks, but original ones – also the material has to be unusual, like, trash for instance.

What is your personal goals for this stay – or your aim for the work on your line?
- Hmm, to accept the mistakes i make, to be better at concentrating when other people are on. And learn more theater.

And do you feel you improve?
- Yes, every day.
